*REWARD* For safe return of missing Killer Whale

Friday, March 5th, 2010

We are seeking the public’s assistance in locating the following missing mammal. Anyone with information related to the current whereabouts of this creature is asked to contact the District of Sooke at (250) 642-1634 or SpyHoppers at info@sooke.ca

He was last seen in the vicinity of Whiffin Spit Road, riding the roof racks of a small car, possibly driven by a female with a heavy French accent.

A favourite of kids and adults alike, and one of the star attractions at the Ozone!

Please help us find Willie and return him to his pond.

DESCRIPTION:  He is approximately 5 to 6 feet in length and stands about 3.5 feet high.  He is black and white and sometimes red all over.  He has a small scar on one side from an imaginary collision with a propeller.  He is attracted to coins.

REWARD FOR HIS SAFE RETURN TO THE DISTRICT OF SOOKE

“A” Channel and interview with Sooke Mayor, Janet Evans at Richmond, BC.

Sunday, February 21st, 2010

It’s called “BC Street” at the Richmond O-zone.

But to Vancouver Island communities looking for exposure and economic development - the pedestrian laneway outside Richmond City Hall is more like “easy street”, as thousands of visitors pass through.

Tofino and Qualicum beach are here with a display-house to entice newcomers and investors alike.

And while Tofino Mayor John Fraser chats up potential visitors, the region shows its best.

One booth over the ecstatic mayor of the relatively small municipality of Sooke is welcoming guests of her own, at the community’s display.

Video of our team building our booth at the OZone in Richmond

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

This is just a short little video of us building our booth at the OZone in Richmond, BC during the Olympics. This was taken over a couple of days, including the Friday with the Olympic opening ceremonies.

At the end of this video is a little surprise too. Our UVic co-op student, Sean, decided that he wanted to rock out to Phil Collins while driving.

Day 1 and 2 of the Olympics

Monday, February 15th, 2010

I just came back from helping set up our fantastic booth to show the world at the O-Zone in Richmond, BC. What an amazing time and experience.

We arrived Wednesday morning and it took us all day to get it near completion. The booth looks fantastic and the people coming through were VERY impressed to see what we had put together. I think this is going to be something amazing for the Sooke Region. People were getting their photos taken with the large Salmon and Orca and kids eyes were lit up when they saw this walking through.

It’s been very positive and the team work and effort from the volunteers have been outstanding. I get to see some of the comments from the website people all over the world leave about our booth and I can tell you that they are heartwarming.. I will share some with you all.

” WE VISITED YOUR DISPLAY AT THE RICHMOND O ZONE AND WERE VERY IMPRESSED.
A GREAT PROMOTION FOR YOUR BEAUTIFUL AREA OF B.C ”

“Your BC Street tent was amazing! I have gone back several times to enjoy the display and others from our gorgeous province on BC Street! Well done! Your staff assisting visitors are also very enthusiastic.”

“loved your display at the O Zone”

I loved the Sooke exhibit at the olympics. It was interesting to see and everyone was warm and friendly. I ve never been to Sooke ‘but after being in the pavilion I hope to visit there one day.”

“Loved your booth and great volunteers who were extremely friendly!!!”

All of us in Sooke should be proud. We are representing one of the most amazing places in Canada.

Photos of the Sooke 2010 booth in Richmond

Monday, February 1st, 2010

Just wanted to give everyone a chance who hasn’t seen the working version of the booth for the Richmond Ozone event something to see. As you can see, we don’t have any water in the “ocean” yet and things are pretty messy as we are still very much working hard on this.

But I think you’ll get a flavour for what this is all about and how this will look once it has been completed.

Don’t forget to support this event by coming to the open house on February 6th from 10am – 3pm at the Sooke Fire Hall. Hot Dog sales will be on hand.

We look forward to seeing everyone out here.

Don’t forget to enter our $7500 Sooke get-away contest on the website as well. Wonderful prizes and a great way to see the Sooke Region.
